Drackensburg, Part 1

We arrived home yesterday from a fabulous trip to Drackensburg, where stayed in the rural area of Mnweni.

We have a wonderful time for the 3 days that we were there. We went hiking, played soccer with local Zulu children, saw a traditional Sangoma (Zulu witch doctor) dance, visited a local school, bonded over Phase 10, and much more! Though we expected it to be cold and snowy, the weather was perfect--warm during the day so we could hike in shorts, and cool at night to sleep. Fortunately, there was no snow and we managed to stay dry.

Here are some preliminary pictures from the trip.

A waterfall at the beginning of our hike out to a local homestead.

School children who walked home with us on our hike the first day. They walk 4-6 kilometers to school each way every day. They leave their houses at 6:00am so they can arrive on time.

A dance the Sangomas performed for us at the homestead.

More to come soon...
